Abstract

This essay proposes to analyze the relationship of Jornal do Brasil, a newspaper that circulated between 1891 and 2010, with the city of Rio de Janeiro, based on self-referential speeches and reports from journalists, particularly on the addresses of Avenida Rio Branco 110; And Avenida Brasil 500. As the city, which sought to stay in the vanguard, the country’s cultural hub, the newspaper built an image associated with this symbolic capital.
