This article presents an analysis of specialised professional in animation using the perspective of animation as a social practice, as well as clarifying the nature of the animator’s art and seeking to better understand the motives for the concept of artistic genius that is still prevalent within an environment of knowledge and established collective procedures. The starting point of this analysis is the book by Kris and Kurz on artists’ biographies, Becker’s notion of the “world” of art, together with Bourdieu’s concept of the “field” and Wolff’s ideas on art and ideology.
