This article aims to identify which variables related to the articulation “private sector – government – community” interfere in the public interest, considering the public communication processes involved in this triangulation. From theoretical reflections on the issue of public interest and empirical study – interviews with city councilors from a city that holds a large company – two main variables are found: a) marked asymmetry of power among those involved in the triangulation and b) naturalization of private actions in the public area. We conclude that these variables are obstacles to the practices and normative principles of public communication, and also tend to cause the “deletion” of private interests in the public debate.
