From Boca de Ouro (1963) to Perdoa-me por me Traíres (1983), the cinema produced in Rio de Janeiro presented a wave of productions with, according to a certain criticism of the time, a heavy and uncomfortable mise-en-scène. These films based on the work of Nelson Rodrigues proposed an expressionist acting style that caused some misunderstanding for its creative ethos at the same time convulsive and excessive, revealing an inherited style with European historical avant-garde.
