Insurgent Archives: Palestinian Cinema and Solidarity

This article examines Palestinian cinema as an insurgent archival practice that articulates memory, resistance and transnational solidarity. Drawing on the history of Palestinian film archives — marked by displacement, loss and attempts at erasure — it analyzes how films, collections and preservation initiatives operate as forms of cultural resistance to colonial violence. The article argues that the archive is not merely a repository of the past, but an active field of political dispute and knowledge production about the Palestinian anticolonial struggle. By examining practices of circulation, recovery and reinscription of images, it shows how cinematic archives function as infrastructures of solidarity that connect different temporalities and geographies of resistance. It concludes that archival and cinematic practices help preserve and reactivate traditions of struggle, reaffirming the role of visual culture in constructing alternative historical and political narratives.
