Brazilian Cordiality, Gabriela Amaral AlmeidaAbstract
Creative process and academic reflection converge in the career of Gabriela Amaral Almeida, a Bahian filmmaker based in São Paulo: not because her films illustrate a thesis – which would limit the flight of the imagination – but because her critical repertoire– although not necessarily consciously – shapes the treatment given to the contradictions of our time. In this sense, it can be said that her experience at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), where she was part of the film analysis laboratory coordinated by Professor Wilson Gomes and defended her dissertation in 2003, should be taken into account when drawing up a critical reading of her work, with emphasis on the centrality given to the labor.
