This article is part of a wider research about digital social networks and the type of information circulating in closed groups on Facebook. Hoaxes circulating in the network caught our attention and we tried to identify them, categorizing them according to the types of hoaxes proposed by Kapferer (1993), and to observe how is possible a reparation of an error in diffusion of unconfirmed information. Through ethnography, we did a daily observation work in the closed group on Facebook, the Utilidade Capixaba - ES - UP. In eight months, it was possible to confirm 18 cases of hoaxes in two directions proposed by Renard (2007a), hoax as unverified information and hoax as false information. We notice that the page’s administrator removes the initial post, maintaining the repercussions. The members post the correct information in the group, the so-called “social filter,” observed by Clay Shirky (2010).
