Abstract

This article discusses the adaptations of stories that migrate from the literary field to the cinematographic. The relationship between the works in the perspective of intertextuality and hypertextuality, in which the texts are related in a process of derivation, is approached. The focus is the inter-mediatic transposition of The Posthumous Memoirs of Bras Cubas (1881) for the film Posthumous Memoirs (2001). The changes made in the transposition of the novel for the film are discussed, and the elements that remain, those that renew themselves and those that do not materialize in the adapted work, are highlighted. There is the transposition of fables, characters and situations, and the influence of the industrial formats in the composition of the plot. This manifests itself in the prominence of the love life of Brás and in the concatenation of the cause and effect relations between the parts of the story.
