This article is the beginning of a follow-up and analysis research on the disruption of traditional journalism, and seeks to show how the internet has put in check the business model of traditional newspapers, both printed and on the web. The text matches the New York Times Innovation Report, its consequences and the new report launched in 2017 with the changes that are occurring in the Rio de Janeiro newspapers O Globo, Extra and Expresso. This paper assesses the financial basis for this model disintegration, and analyzes the case of two attempts to make quality journalism on the internet: Projeto Colabora and Agência Pública. Christensen’s disruptive innovation concept and authors such as Bauman and Anderson help in understanding what is happening because of the technological changes. The conclusion is that the new model for journalism will be found by trial and error and concentrated in niches.
